Meet our first generation (F1) Scottish Blackface Sheep x Valais Blacknose Sheep ewes

These girls are 50% Scottish Blackface and 50% Valais Blacknose sheep.  

They are referred to as the F1 generation which is also referred to as a F1 hybrid. An F1 Hybrid (also known as filial 1 hybrid) is the first generation of offspring of distinctly different parental types. F1 hybrids are used in genetics and in selective breeding where it may appear as F1 crossbreed.

It’s interesting to see how, after only one generation, they’ve begun to take on the characteristics of the pure-bred Valais Blacknose Sheep, particularity in the curl seen in their wool.  And, they are also calmer and friendlier than the purebred Scotties which is another bonus.
